“While the barn that once housed the business may be gone, the spirit of craftsmanship, innovation, and quality customer service remains stronger than ever.”
In 1994, Allyn Moseley founded The Heirloom Companies with a singular focus: crafting custom staircases. What began in a modest barn outside the family home quickly became known for its dedication to craftsmanship and quality. That barn is long gone, but the heart of the business remains — still rooted in the same values that sparked its beginning.
Over the years, Heirloom has grown far beyond staircases, evolving into a multi-faceted company known for its expertise in wood and metalwork. What once started as a small, family-run operation has now become a trusted name among architects, builders, and homeowners across the Southeast and beyond.
Today, The Heirloom Companies is made up of three specialized businesses, each carrying forward Allyn’s legacy while pushing the boundaries of custom craftsmanship.
Every project starts with vision. James Moseley Design serves as the creative hub of Heirloom, where concepts take shape and ideas are refined into actionable plans. Sometimes, that means James himself leads the design process, sketching concepts and developing detailed renderings. Other times, it’s about collaboration—working closely with architects, interior designers, and builders to ensure every element of a project is thoughtfully considered and seamlessly integrated.
This collaborative approach allows Heirloom to execute projects that not only reflect their craftsmanship but also honor the designer’s intent and the homeowner’s vision. From grand staircases to custom light fixtures, the design process ensures that every piece is as functional as it is beautiful.
Staying true to the company’s origins, Heirloom Stair & Iron focuses on the craftsmanship that first put Heirloom on the map: custom staircases and railings. These aren’t just structural elements—they’re statement pieces, designed to elevate the character of a home.
Each staircase is handcrafted with precision, using only the finest materials. Whether it’s a sweeping, curved staircase in a luxury home or a modern, minimalist design with sleek iron railings, the team approaches every project with the same attention to detail and commitment to quality. The goal is always to create something timeless, something that not only stands the test of time but becomes an integral part of the home’s story.
While staircases remain a core part of Heirloom’s identity, our company’s capabilities have expanded significantly. Hand Forged Designs is where custom home furnishings come to life. This division specializes in one-of-a-kind pieces that truly cannot be found anywhere else.
From striking range hoods that anchor a kitchen to bespoke light fixtures that set the tone for an entryway, each piece is handcrafted with the same dedication to quality that has defined Heirloom from the start. Fire screens, iron doors, and custom furniture are all part of the portfolio, each one designed to fit the unique needs and style of the home it’s made for.
Today, The Heirloom Companies is led by Allyn’s three sons — Ben (Right, COO), James (Middle, Designer), and Travis (Left, Metal Shop Manager) — who have stepped into leadership while honoring the legacy their father built. Together, they continue to push the company forward, combining old-world craftsmanship with modern design and technology.
Though the original barn is gone, the spirit that fueled its early days remains stronger than ever. It’s evident in every project we take on, every piece we craft, and every relationship we build. For the Moseley family and the entire Heirloom team, the mission remains the same: to create lasting, beautiful work that exceeds expectations and stands the test of time.
